ABOUT THE INSTITUTION

Maharani Lakshmi Ammanni College for Women was founded by Dr. K N V Sastri in the year 1972 along with Dr. M.N.Mahadevan and Sri T.S.Rajam. The institution is named after Maharani Lakshmi Ammanni who was the queen of the Wodeyar dynasty and was well known for her public spirit and political foresight. Her contribution to the strength of the Mysore kingdom was noteworthy. The institution is recognized under Sections 2(f) and 12(B) of UGC Act. 

Maharani Lakshmi Ammanni College for Women has been re-accredited with 'A' grade in 2010 by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). It is one of the institutions in India selected by UGC as ‘College with Potential for Excellence’ (CPE) in 2010 as well as CPE-Phase II in 2014. The institution has been awarded the Star College status by DBT, Govt. of India, besides being recognized as among the best colleges for award of BSR grant thrice in a row for the promotion of Basic Sciences. The institution has consistently been ranked among the top 50 colleges in India Today Nielsen Survey and the Top 10 colleges in Bangalore city for all the streams in the last three years.

The institution offers 17 UG Programs in Arts, Science, Commerce, Business Administration (BBA), Computer Application (BCA), and PG programs in Commerce, Biotechnology, Biochemistry and Kannada. The Research Centre of the institution is recognized by Bangalore University to offer Ph.D. programmes in Bio-technology, Commerce and Kannada language.
